Matt joined Cavanagh LLP in 2022, after practicing as a litigator for several years with a full-service firm in Kingston. Matt is a trial and appeals lawyer. He has represented clients in all levels of court in Ontario. He assists individuals, businesses, municipalities and insurers in a variety of matters, including:
• insurance litigation;
• professional liability
• contract and commercial disputes
• negligence and tort actions, including personal injury and fatality claims
Matt is a thoughtful and strategic advocate, regarded for his professionalism and diligent preparation. His approach to litigation is client-focused and collaborative. His direct and pragmatic style helps clients identify their goals, develop winning strategies, and manage risks. For Matt, the most challenging cases are also the most rewarding ones, and satisfaction only comes when he achieves a favourable result for his client.
Matt obtained his master’s and law degrees from Queen’s University and has received many academic awards and scholarships. He has served on several corporate, institutional, and not-for-profit boards and committees in the health care, education, social services, and environmental sectors.
Before becoming a lawyer, Matt lived in the United States, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
